1. Keep Things Clutter-Free
If you or any of your employees store boxes and stacks of paper near walkways then it is very likely that someone will trip over it. Boxes aren’t the only culprits of tripping people.
If you have any cords running through walkways then they pose a hazard for more reasons than falling. They are also an electrical hazard.
Make sure that they are out of the way and covered. Keeping things neat and organized will stop employees for tripping and allow them to find everything faster.
2. No Standing on Chairs
If you have things on top shelves your shorter workers may be tempted to get on their spinning office chairs to reach them. This is the fastest way to send them to a workers comp doctor.
Keep items on lower shelves instead or provide step ladders so short employees can still have access to the things that they need.
3. Put in Carpet
Marble floors are pretty but they can get kind of slippery when they’re wet. This being said, you can still have them you just need to put down carpets in certain places.
For example, put a carpet in the entryway to your business. This gives employees something to wipe their feet on when they come in from the rain.
4. Give Them Adjustable Equipment
One desk/chair doesn’t fit all. Employees need equipment that they can adjust to meet their comfort levels. Be warned that this equipment can be expensive but it’s worth it.
Employees can work faster and be more productive when they don’t spend half their shifts rubbing their wrists in pain.
5. Train Workers on How to Use Equipment
You can give an employee ergonomic equipment but they won’t be able to reap the benefits if they don’t know how to use it. Take a minute to hold a meeting to train everyone with it.
It will take time away that they could have spent being productive but it’s fewer injury claims that you have to deal with because an employee misused their equipment.
