India is certainly one country that is completely hyped up about cricket. The extent of this craze is so much that the audiences enjoy every single format thoroughly. Though the game is enjoyed by many, there are several aspects of the game that people may not be aware of, especially in the context of Indian cricket.
Beginnings of Cricket in India
The game is fairly old and was introduced to India by the British in the 1970s. Indians played several local tournaments against the Europeans and many Indians were also a part of the English team. By the time, they got to play their first match as Team India only in1932. The team India was not very strong initially and it was a long period of 20 years before they won their first cricket test match.
The Changing Formats
- Test Matches
Cricket has seen innumerable changes since its inception. The game, as we see today, is very different from how it was when it started. One of the most noticeable changes has been in terms of the format of the game. The first-ever popularised format of cricket was the test cricket. This form of the game started with an unlimited number of overs for each team and could go on until all the players of the batting teams were dismissed. The game evolved and was limited to a maximum of five days in which the two teams would play a total of four innings. This is still considered to be the true test of skills.
- One Day Matches
The origin of ‘limited over’ matches goes back to the year 1971, but they became more popular in the 1980s. These were far more exciting than the test matches as the results were guaranteed within a day after two innings of fifty overs each. The ICC world cup is contested with the ODI format.
- T20 Matches
2005 saw the arrival of another new format, the shortest of all that would deliver results in 2 short innings of 20 overs each. This has become very popular as the matches are very exciting and often 2 matches can be played in a single day, giving an exciting momentum to the tournaments.
All the three formats are highly popular and regular tournaments are scheduled for each through the year.
The Betting Scenario
The formats are not the only things that have seen a lot of development. Sports betting have been very popularin the field of cricket. At one point, it was defamed due to match-fixing to make money. Since then, the regulations regarding gambling on cricket are very strict. Earlier, it was only the bookies who had control of all the bets placed, but now, interested sports betting fans can freely do so online.
The online sports betting facilities are now available to India through several reputed websites. With so many options available, you do not have to rely on a bookie and can be comfortable at home when placing your bets. You can research every match thoroughly before placing your bets. You also have access to information about the odds for winning of each team as predicted on the various websites and hence your preparations are backed with data as well.
Popularity of Betting
The fact that Indians love cricket also shows in the active participation shown by them on these portals. All the recognised betting portals have a fairly large number of registered users who test their understanding of the game by predicting the results. Whether or not they win their wage, they do not give up and move on to the next match. This not only builds their interest in the match but also appears as an opportunity to generate extra expendable income.
If you are new to betting, the process of going online is simple and is trusted by many, but you must be wise in your choice of the betting portal. Once done, it is recommended that you start small and play the betting game responsibly. You may have excellent knowledge of the game, but when it comes to betting, there is a certain element of luck involved that could turn the tables. So, start small, play smart.
