We’d definitely recommend investing in a keyboard. Apple makes its own keyboard that doubles as a cover, but you can find plenty of Bluetooth keyboards out there if you’re looking for something different. A keyboard makes typing on your iPad much easier and quicker.
If you’re using a detached keyboard, you’ll want something to stand your iPad upright. Invest in a good iPad holder as otherwise, you may find yourself straining your neck to see the screen.
A stylus or an Apple Pencil is also a good option if you need to make fine adjustments to your work.
Connect to the Internet
All iPads come with WiFi, but not all of them work with cellular data.
This isn’t too much of a problem, however. It’s simple enough to turn your smartphone into a WiFi hotspot and connect your iPad to that. If you use an iPhone, just go to Settings and then Personal Hotspot to turn it on.
You can set up a personal hotspot on Android phones, too.
There’s an App for That
Once you’re all set up, all you need are some apps.

If you have a Dropbox account, you can even collaborate on Microsoft Office documents saved in the cloud, allowing you co-author documents in real-time.
Other apps that may be of use include work communications apps such as Slack, project management tools such as Trello, and even accounting software such as QuickBooks.
You should find that there’s not much that you can do on your desktop that you can’t do just as well on your iPad.
