Preparing for a move is never easy. There are so many things to plan and fix to ensure a smooth relocation process. That is why it is important to do your research before taking any action.
If you are planning to move in Georgia, moving companies in the Marietta area and nearby locations can make your relocation as quick and stress-free as possible. However, if you think that your movers will move anything, you better think again. Hiring a professional will surely help make your move easier, but it is important to keep in mind that there are things that moving professionals will not allow on their truck. Some items are obvious, while some can be surprising.
Perishable Goods
Movers will not move perishable food items because they will not be able to keep them cool during the move. It’s either you pack your milk, butter, frozen treats, and fresh produce in a large cooler while driving to your new home or you throw all of them away. Food items that have been opened should also be thrown. Good news, though, because movers will move food items that are unopened and non-perishable goods such as canned goods, pasta, and rice.
Family heirlooms
It is recommended to take with you anything that has sentimental value to your family or something that is monetarily expensive because movers avoid losing or damaging such items. The moving truck will be loaded with heavy and bulky boxes that there is a high probability of something getting broken. The mover’s liability coverage for your belongings will only cover the current market value of the damaged item.
Moreover, losing or damaging items that have sentimental value to you and your family is not just worth it. This is the very reason why moving companies will not agree about moving such items with them.
Nail polish and nail polish remover
Movers might not transport your nail polish nor your nail polish remover because they are highly flammable. These products should be handled with extra care when moving. However, when moving somewhere far, it is highly suggested to just throw these items away and replace them once you have arrived at your new home.
Plants
Aside from the fact that plants are really hard to handle, movers will not transport your plants because of legal reasons. The very cause of this is to avoid the spread of any harmful insects, pests and diseases. So before packing your plants, check first if it is legal in your new location. For those moving to a close location, it is best to just move your plants with your own car. Wrap them with a plastic wrap to secure them and to ensure that they will not get destroyed during the move.
Scuba gear
Unfortunately for diving enthusiasts, moving companies might refuse to transport scuba gear in their truck. Scuba tanks are made of highly pressurized oxygen and specialized gas mixtures that are extremely flammable. Always remember that collisions are among the most common causes of a pressurized scuba tank explosion.
When scuba tanks are placed in a moving truck, there is a high chance that they will be bumped during the trip, which is very hazardous. Moreover, if you are moving your scuba tanks yourself, make sure that they are completely empty to ensure your safety.
