Light and breathable clothes
When you hit the beach you want to be as comfortable as possible. It can get really hot out so having a lightweight and breathable clothes is ideal. They can not only keep you cool and comfortable it can also keep you from getting serious heatstroke.
Cotton tank tops or plain t-shirts are popular choices since they are easy to get and pretty breathable. Linen is another breathable fabric but they are mostly button-downs or polos. This can be a problem if you plan to do physical activities.
Synthetic fibers such as nylon and rayon are popular choices too. They’re breathable and dry easily. Pick bright colors as opposed to dark ones. Darker colors absorb the heat from the sun which makes for a really uncomfortable experience.
2-3 shirts are enough for most cases but if you plan on doing a few activities or if you sweat a lot, feel free to add a few more.
Dry Bags
These bad boys are essentials especially if you are bringing a lot of sensitive equipment and electronics. As the name suggests, dry bags are designed to be sealable and waterproof. They come in a wide variety of sizes and colors depending on your needs.
You can store electronics such as small cameras, power banks, and your phones. You can also put your valuables in here and take them with you in the water if you are uncomfortable leaving your things on the beach.
Food and Drink Coolers
If you plan on bringing food and drinks with you, this is a must-have. Coolers have different sizes and shapes but the main purpose remains the same. The cooler keeps your drinks or food cool for as long as possible.
However, these can be very bulky even for the smaller sizes. Plus it can be overkill to some. If you want something that’s lighter and more portable, cooler bags are great options too. Though not as effective as the larger coolers, they make up for it with their portability. Pro tip: keep your coolers away from the sun to make the cold last longer. It sounds obvious but people tend to forget this sometimes.
Beach Tent
As mentioned above, the beach can get really hot especially during the summer. Long exposure to the sun can cause several problems like dehydration, sunburn, or worse even heatstroke. A good beach tent can save you from this and make your beach adventure a whole lot better.
Beach tents are specifically designed for beach use. They are generally lightweight and have bigger openings, unlike conventional camping tents. They are sometimes made with UV protective materials to keep the damaging effects of the sun away from you. These are also great if you want a little bit of privacy on the beach.
If beach tents aren’t your thing, a great alternative would be beach umbrellas with a long pole and eye-holes for attaching stakes. They’re relatively easy to acquire and get the job done quite well.
Sports equipment
The beach is a great place to be active and just have fun while moving about. Of course, there is swimming which is a great workout on its own. There are also several activities to try from the beginner-friendly to the extreme. Here is a couple you could try out:
Snorkeling Gear – This cool sport lets you enjoy the beauty of undersea life without the complicated gear unlike in scuba diving. Say you’re looking to sail the Whitsunday Islands, bringing a snorkelling mask would be as essential as swimmers to properly enjoy the underwater experience. Coupled with a breathing tube, a life vest, optional fins, and you’re good to go. The gear isn’t too bulky either making it easy to bring with you anywhere.
Standup Paddleboard – This new sport combines kayaking and surfing. As the name suggests, riders are upright and use paddles to move about. The boards are made in a variety of materials including inflatable rubber. This innovation makes the board ultra-portable, lightweight, and easy to stow. For beginners, a general-purpose board should give you hours of fun. Did you know SUPs are also great to fish off of?
Skimboards – This is also another boardsport like paddleboarding or surfing. But unlike the two, skimboards are smaller and flatter. The riders run along the beach and try to “skim” over the water while on the board hence the name. Great for beginners because you don’t have to paddle out into the sea and try to catch a wave.
Tech stuff
Technology has been a huge part of our lives whether we like it or not. While it’s great to disconnect from it all, there is nothing bad with making your outing better with tech. Here are cool little gadgets to make your beach excursions a lot better.
Camera – Whether you are a photography enthusiast or just a casual user, cameras are great to have with you on your beach adventure. The beach has plenty of photo opportunities for you to capture. Action cameras are also great if you plan on doing extreme sports like surfing or snorkeling.
Portable outdoor speakers – What better way to make your beach trip extra special than enjoying fun upbeat music. Outdoor speakers are designed to be waterproof and sand-proof so you can enjoy great music anywhere you go.
Power packs – These are handy little gadgets to keep your tech gear all juiced up. They come in a variety of sizes and lots of different features to choose from. Pro tip: always make sure that your power pack and the gadgets you plan to use it with are compatible. This saves you the frustration of realizing it doesn’t work when you need it.
