Who doesn’t love efficiency in the workplace? AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicle) are fantastic in the warehouse because of their efficiency, but you want to make sure you choose one that comes with particular safety features to reduce injuries and have less damaged goods.
Keep reading to learn 3 important safety features you want to look for in automated guided vehicles.
1. Alarm Lights
When you are looking and researching AGV manufacturing solutions you want to make sure that the AGV you are considering has both warning lights and alarm lights. The warning lights should alert anyone in the area that the AGV is approaching a turn.
If there is an emergency then the AGV should have alarm lights that blink to let everyone know that there is further assistance needed from someone. An additional safety feature that goes hand in hand with an alarm light are emergency stop buttons.
This should be available to completely stop the AGV in case it needs to be immediately shut off to prevent someone from getting hurt.
2. Collision Avoidance
Opting for an automated guided vehicle that has laser sensors mounted all around it will help it detect when something is in its path. If you are going to rely on a machine to wander around your warehouse or task it with certain things to do every day, you want to make sure that it has collision avoidance before it creates havoc.
The last thing you need is either someone getting hit or racks and products getting destroyed. Look for a machine that has sensors distributed in multiple areas. Check for sensors in the front, rear, both sides, and the upper areas of the automated guided vehicle.
With these sensors, the machine will slow down before coming to a full stop. Once the obstacle is removed from its sensor area it will resume operation automatically. How long before it resumes operation will vary on the programming set by the manufacturer.
3. Warning Sounds
Besides opting for warning lights and alarm lights you want to find an automated guided vehicle that also has warning and alarm sounds to go with those lights. If you have a specific sound level preference make sure to ask the manufacturer if you can adjust the volume before you make your purchase.
Some manufacturers will add sounds while the machine is in normal operation. This helps you and anyone nearby know that the machine is working without any issues.
Feeling Like an Automated Guided Vehicle Pro?
Now that you are familiar with the safety features you want to look for in an automated guided vehicle, it is time to do your research and find the best AGV for your warehouse. You do not want to settle for the first machine you find, make sure that you take your time and do your homework.
