The number of businesses which have up to date security software in place is worryingly low and if you fall into this group of business owners then you must realize exactly why it is so important to have top level security to protect your business’ IT infrastructure. Bharat Bhise HNA is an expert in this field and he works with a great number of companies in helping them to ensure that they have maximum protection in their company. Bharat spoke with us at length last month about the need for businesses to better protect themselves, and the risks which come when you don’t.
If you aren’t currently protected with security software then this is exactly why you need to be.
Business Information
No matter how big or small your business is it is highly likely that you will store data on computer systems, including sensitive information about your company. Just think about what type of information someone may find if they were able to hack into your computers. Contract agreements, personal emails, business plans, all of this will be fair game if anyone breaches your computer network.
Personal Information
You have an obligation to protect the information about your customers and if you don’t have security software and you are storing personal information about your customers then you are risking a great deal. When people commit identity fraud they often find the information about the person who they are defrauding as a result of cyberattacks. If you are breached because you didn’t have security in place then how do you think that will play out once your customers discover what has happened? Your reputation will be in tatters and it will take a long time to rebuild the trust that has been lost.
Hacks Happen
Whether you like it or not hacks do happen and they are increasingly happening to small businesses. The reason why this is happening more and more amongst small businesses is because the cybercriminals know that you are unlikely to have any security in place, and if you do there is a good chance that it will be outdated and very easy to penetrate. Don’t think that this can’t happen to you, it most definitely can.
Cost
If you aren’t sure whether or not you want to pay the cost of a security software suite then you soul consider just how much money it will cost you if you do get hacked. You could be offline for days, with no sales and paying staff for hours where they have little to do. You will have to call in a computer support team to try and stop the attack and to repair any damage which has been caused, and after all of this you will have to purchases the security software anyway, to prevent any follow up attacks.
There is a big risk that you are running if you don’t have security on your computer systems, and it could very well cost you big time.
